The Development Association of Seinäjoki Region
The LAG
Liiveri is a local association for rural development (LAG) operating in beautiful and unique province of South Ostrobothnia. The Development Association of Seinäjoki Region was founded in 1997. The aim of Liiveri's development program is to increase the competitive capacity of the area to make the region more attractive living environment, especially for young people, so that an increasing number will want to live and work in the region throughout their lives. To maintain the vitality of the region Liiveri offers partial EU-funding for enterprises and development projects. The members of the association are active private people, representatives of associations, enterprises and public communities.
The Area
The Seinäjoki sub-region is situated in Western Finland, in the province of South-Ostrobothnia. The province has a strong entrepreneurship spirit, its own economic infrastructure offering city-level services for both inhabitants and visitors.
The Seinäjoki sub-region includes the capital of the province, Seinäjoki and its neighbouring municipalities of Ilmajoki, Jalasjärvi and Kurikka. The distance from the capital of the province, Seinäjoki, to the Finnish capital, Helsinki, is 350 km.
The population of the Seinäjoki sub-region is approximately 85 000. The region could be characterized as a combination of suburban and real countryside. The area is about 3290 km² and the population density is 25 inhabitants per km².
Development Themes
Liiveri's Development Strategy for 2007−2013 is The Creative and Learning Countryside. The main development themes are:
- Countryside of welfare services
- Countryside of trade
- Home district and its surrounding region
- Countryside of the youth

- Families with babies go colour − an example of a development project
- Contented horses and profitable cooperation − an example of a education project
Total Finance
Total finance frame for the period of 2007–2013 is 9,8 million euros:
- 45 % comes from the EU
- 35% comes from the state of Finland
- 20% is financed by the local municipalities.
Internationality
Development Association of Seinäjoki Region and Suupohja Development Association joined forces in the To Europe by Co-operation -project to provide better conditions for international co-operation.
Both LAG's are especially interested in projects including youngsters, villages and village activities, cultural activities and ideas around welfare services and the role of the 3rd sector. SME’s are a focal point of our activities as well.
We are looking for international partners regarding all aspects of rural development:
to exchange ideas, solve problems and spread best practises!
